A handwriting practice sheet maker that builds printable grid-square (genko / tian-zi-ge) practice sheets for any characters you type — kanji, hiragana, katakana, or a name. Each cell can show a faded gray tracing of the character, with the remaining cells left blank, so learners trace first and then write on their own. Choose a per-character layout (each input character gets its own repeating row) or a whole word/name layout (the full string repeats across rows). Add cross (+) or rice (*) guide lines, or none; pick the cell size and a Mincho (serif) or Gothic (sans) style; and set how many cells per row or rows per sheet. Use it for grade-by-grade kanji practice, homework, name-writing practice, or adult handwriting drills. Characters you enter are never uploaded — everything runs in your browser.

How to use

  1. Type the characters to practice (kanji, hiragana, or a name). In per-character mode, put one character per line to get a repeating row for each.
  2. Choose the layout, the number of faded tracing cells, the cell size, guides and style, and cells per row or rows.
  3. Press Generate to preview, then Print to print it (or save as PDF).

FAQ

Can it make a name-tracing sheet?

Yes. Choose the whole word/name layout and type a name on one line; it repeats the full name across the number of rows you set. The top rows (as many as the tracing count) are shown in faded gray, so the learner traces them first and then writes the name on the blank rows.

Can I change how many tracing (faded) cells there are?

Yes. Pick 0–3 tracing cells. In per-character mode the first that-many cells of each row are faded and the rest are blank; in whole-word mode the top that-many rows are faded. Set it to 0 for a blank grid sheet.

Can I choose the grid guides, size and style?

Yes. Guides can be cross (+), rice (*) or none; the cell size can be large, medium or small; and the style can be Mincho (serif) or Gothic (sans). You can also set the cells per row or the number of rows, so it works from big beginner squares to compact adult drills.

Are the characters I type stored or uploaded?

No. The characters you enter are never sent to a server and are not saved. Everything runs in your browser (only settings like cell size and guides are stored on your device for next time, and can be cleared with Reset).
