20×20 = 400 squares per sheet, vertical (tategaki), right to left. Nothing is uploaded.

A tool that flows your text into traditional Japanese manuscript paper (genko yoshi) at the standard 20×20 = 400 squares per sheet, previews it vertically, and exports it as a PNG image. Paste your text and it is placed one character per square, column by column from right to left and top to bottom; long text is automatically split across multiple sheets. Line breaks start a new column, and each paragraph's first square can be indented (toggle on/off). It also follows Japanese line-breaking (kinsoku) rules: closing punctuation like 。、)」, small kana (っ・ゃ etc.), and the long-vowel mark ー are never placed at the top of a column — they hang at the end of the previous column instead. You can switch between Mincho (serif) and Gothic (sans) styles and choose a display size (screen, standard, or large for print). When the text spans several sheets you can page through the preview, save just the sheet you are viewing as a PNG, or save all sheets together as a ZIP. It is handy for previewing book reports, essays, fiction, or assignments before submission, and for producing printable manuscript-paper images. Your text is never sent to any server — both the layout and the image export run entirely inside your browser.

How to use

  1. Paste (or type) the text you want to flow into manuscript paper. Line breaks start a new column.
  2. On the right, a preview appears laid out on 20×20 = 400-square manuscript paper, written vertically. Long text splits across sheets you can page through with Prev / Next.
  3. Use "Download this sheet (PNG)" for the current sheet, or "Download all (ZIP)" to save every page as images at once.

FAQ

Is my text sent to a server?

No. Both the layout and the image export happen entirely inside your browser. The text you enter is never uploaded, stored, or transmitted — it stays on your device, so it's safe even for drafts and personal writing.

How many squares are there per sheet?

The standard 20×20 = 400 squares (20 squares per column, 20 columns). Text flows vertically from right to left, and anything that doesn't fit continues onto the next sheet automatically.

Will punctuation end up at the top of a column?

No. Closing punctuation (。、)」), small kana (っ・ゃ・ゅ・ょ etc.), and the long-vowel mark ー are not allowed to start a column. When they would, they hang at the end of the previous column instead — the same kinsoku (line-breaking) convention used on real manuscript paper.

Can I indent the first square of each paragraph?

Yes. Turn on "Indent paragraphs" and the first square of each paragraph (a block separated by a line break) is left blank. Turn it off to pack the text without indentation.

Can I export a large image for printing?

Choose "Print (large)" under Size to export a higher-resolution PNG with bigger squares. Print the saved image at actual size to use it as manuscript paper. When there are multiple sheets, you can save them all together as a ZIP.
