A free online video compressor for when a phone recording is too big to email, exceeds the Discord, WhatsApp, Slack or X upload limit, or is eating your storage — with no software to install and nothing uploaded. Two ways to set it: Quality (Small / Balanced / High) or Target size, where you type a number like 25 or 10 MB and the tool works out the bitrate from the video's length so the result fits. Combine it with a resolution cap (original, 1080p, 720p or 480p) to downscale 4K or tall phone videos for even smaller files (aspect ratio is preserved). Output is an H.264/AAC MP4 that plays anywhere: iPhone, Android, PC and every social platform. The key difference from typical online compressors: your video never leaves your device. Everything runs locally via WebCodecs, so multi-GB files have no upload wait, and there is no account, watermark or daily limit. After compressing, you see the new size and how much was saved, and a warning if the target was missed. Processing time scales with length and resolution (often faster than real time with hardware encoding). A recent Chrome or Edge is recommended.

FAQ
Is my video uploaded?
No. Loading, compressing and exporting all happen inside your browser on your device — nothing is sent to or stored on a server. That's why there is no size limit, daily quota or watermark. Leaving the page discards any in-progress data.
How do I fit a Discord, WhatsApp or email limit?
Choose Target size and type the limit: Discord free tier 10 MB, WhatsApp 16 MB, most email 20–25 MB, Slack/X much larger. For long videos the bitrate needed to hit a small size lowers quality, so also cap the resolution at 720p or 480p to keep it looking good.
How much smaller will it get, and does quality drop?
Phone recordings (high bitrate) typically shrink 50–80% at Balanced. Compression re-encodes the video, so there is some loss, but at Balanced or High it is rarely noticeable on a phone or social feed. Small or a very low target size can soften fine detail. The original file is never modified, so you can adjust and re-run.
The result is still above my target size.
The target is aimed for by computing the bitrate from the video's duration, but fast-moving footage can overshoot slightly. Lower the resolution cap or enter a target 10–20% smaller and run again, as the message suggests. Unticking keep audio also helps when sound isn't needed.
Which formats are supported, and what is the output?
Input: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and other formats your browser can read. Output: H.264/AAC MP4 (WebM in browsers that can't encode H.264), which plays on iPhone, Android, PC and every social platform. Audio is re-encoded to AAC at 96 kbps to save space.
How long does it take?
Time scales with length and resolution. On a PC with hardware encoding it is often faster than real time — roughly tens of seconds for a one-minute 1080p clip. For long videos, cut out the part you need first with the Video Trim tool to make it faster and smaller.
