Exported as a PNG (transparent if chosen) — paste it onto cards, graphics or crafts. Nothing is uploaded.

Turn any text into a vertical-writing image. Paste your text and it is typeset as Japanese tategaki — columns run right to left and characters stack top to bottom — then exported as a transparent PNG with one click. Each line break starts a new column, so multi-line vertical layouts work too. Prolonged sound marks (ー), dashes and brackets such as ()「」『』 are rotated automatically for vertical orientation, and the punctuation marks 、。 are nudged to the upper right so the result reads like proper Japanese typesetting. Pick Mincho (serif) or Gothic (sans) and adjust the font size, text colour, background (transparent / white / cream / black), character spacing and column spacing. Because the output is a transparent PNG, you can drop it straight onto New Year cards, social-media graphics, thumbnails, sticker and handmade-craft artwork, or web headings. Vertical Japanese is awkward to render on the web and in apps, but once it is an image you can paste it anywhere. All processing happens locally; the text you enter can be personal, so it is never stored or uploaded (only UI settings like font and colour are saved in your browser).

How to use

  1. Paste the text you want vertical in the field below (each line break is a column).
  2. Adjust font, size, colour, background and spacing, and check the preview.
  3. Click "Download PNG" to save the image.

FAQ

Which way do the columns run?

Following Japanese convention, columns run right to left and characters in each column flow top to bottom. Your first line becomes the rightmost column.

Are long-vowel marks, brackets and punctuation handled?

Prolonged sound marks, dashes and brackets such as ()「」『』【】 are rotated automatically for vertical orientation, and the marks 、。 are placed at the upper right of their cell. It doesn't do full line-breaking (kinsoku) rules, but the result looks like ordinary vertical text.

Can the background be transparent?

Yes. The background can be transparent, or white, cream or black. A transparent PNG can be layered straight onto cards or design artwork.

How are letters and digits shown?

Latin letters, digits and symbols are stacked one per cell down the column (true tate-chu-yoko, where half-width digits are grouped horizontally, is not supported).

Is the text I type stored?

No. All processing happens in your browser and the text is never stored or uploaded. Only UI settings such as font, colour and spacing are saved in your browser for next time.
