Pick a mode, then enter the values. Everything is solved in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere. Measure gauge: counted stitches/rows over the width/height they cover → gauge per 10cm. Size to count: gauge + finished size → cast-on stitches and rows. Convert pattern: pattern gauge + your gauge + pattern counts → counts that keep the same finished size.
A knitting gauge calculator that works in three modes. "Measure gauge" turns a swatch into a gauge: enter the stitches you counted and the width (cm) they cover, plus the rows you counted and their height (cm), and it gives stitches and rows per 10cm (e.g. 16 sts × 22 rows) and per inch — handy for checking your gauge swatch even when it is smaller than 10cm. "Size to count" takes a gauge (stitches/10cm and rows/10cm) and a finished width and height (cm) and returns the cast-on stitch count and the number of rows to knit — useful for working out the stitches for a scarf width or garment body. "Convert pattern" takes the pattern's gauge, your own gauge and the pattern's stitch and row counts, and converts them to the counts you need so the finished size stays the same when your gauge differs. It works for both knitting needles and crochet, for when yarn weight or tension changes your gauge. Everything is computed in your browser; the values you enter are never sent anywhere.
How to use
- Choose a mode: Measure gauge, Size to count, or Convert pattern.
- Enter the stitches/rows you counted (with their width/height), or a gauge and finished size.
- Your gauge per 10cm, or the stitch and row counts you need, are solved automatically — nothing is sent.
FAQ
Are the stitch counts and sizes I enter sent anywhere?
No. The gauge and stitch/row calculations all run entirely in your browser. The values you type are never sent to any server or API — it all stays on your device.
How do I measure a gauge swatch?
Knit a swatch and count how many stitches and rows fit in a 10cm square near the middle. In the "Measure gauge" mode you can enter the stitches you counted with the width (cm) they cover, and the rows with their height (cm); it converts them to stitches and rows per 10cm automatically, even if your swatch is smaller than 10cm.
Can I get the cast-on stitch count for a finished size?
Yes. In "Size to count" mode, enter your gauge (stitches/10cm and rows/10cm) and the finished width and height (cm), and it returns the cast-on stitch count and the number of rows to knit — for example the stitches for a scarf width or a garment body.
Can it adjust the counts when my gauge does not match the pattern?
Yes. In "Convert pattern" mode, enter the pattern's gauge, your own gauge and the pattern's stitch and row counts; it converts them to the counts you need so the finished size stays the same. This is the adjustment to make when your yarn weight or tension gives a different gauge.
