Removes the background from a photo on your device (no upload) and exports a transparent PNG. Fast mode suits portraits; High-quality AI handles any subject (people, products, illustrations) and downloads a ~90 MB model once. With WebGPU it takes seconds; without it, it still works but slower.

When you want to keep the subject and drop the background — for a profile picture, an ID-style photo, or a marketplace listing — this background remover runs entirely on your device. Drop a photo in (or click to choose, or paste), and in-browser AI estimates the subject and exports a transparent PNG with the background cut out. Two quality modes are available. Fast mode (default) is tuned for people (portraits / selfies) and starts instantly after a few-MB load. High-quality AI mode uses a state-of-the-art segmentation model (IS-Net) that cleanly cuts out any subject — people, products, animals, illustrations — down to fine details like hair (downloads a ~90 MB model once, then runs from cache; with WebGPU it takes seconds, and it still works — just slower — without it). Tune the cutout strength (threshold) and edge softness with sliders, and choose a background of transparent, white, black, or any custom color. Importantly, your photo is never uploaded, stored, or sent anywhere: all processing, including the AI inference, happens inside your browser, so even face photos you don't want to share stay on your device.

How to use

  1. Drop a photo in, click to choose, or paste (Ctrl/Cmd + V).
  2. The AI removes the background automatically. For the cleanest cutout switch to High-quality AI (one-time ~90 MB model download).
  3. Adjust cutout strength, edge softness, and background (transparent / white / black / custom), then Download PNG. Nothing is sent anywhere.

FAQ

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. All processing, including the AI inference, runs in your browser (wasm / WebGPU). Your photo is never uploaded, stored, or sent — it stays entirely on your device.

What's the difference between Fast and High-quality AI mode?

Fast mode uses a small person-focused model (a few MB) and starts instantly. High-quality AI uses a state-of-the-art segmentation model (IS-Net) that handles any subject — products, animals, illustrations as well as people — with hair-level edge detail. It downloads a ~90 MB model once (cached afterwards). On WebGPU-capable browsers (recent Chrome / Edge / Safari / Firefox) it takes seconds; on others it still runs, just slower.

The edges look jagged or unnatural.

Use the 'cutout strength' and 'edge softness' sliders. Raising softness blends the boundary so hair and edges look more natural. If it still bothers you, try High-quality AI mode.

Can I set a white or custom background color?

Yes. Choose transparent, white, black, or a custom color. Transparent exports a PNG with alpha, white gives an ID-photo look, and a custom color matches an avatar or slide background.

Why is the first High-quality AI run a big download?

Instead of sending your image to a server, the remove.bg-class model (~90 MB) is downloaded to your browser once. It's cached after that, so later runs start immediately. That's the trade for high quality with zero upload.
