Translated
A translator for moving between the English tags used on overseas booru sites (Danbooru / gelbooru) and Japanese vocabulary. Paste a list of English tags like `1girl, long_hair, blue_eyes, school_uniform` and it renders the common ones in Japanese (女の子1人・ロングヘア・青い目・学生服). It also goes the other way — Japanese elements you thought of (black hair, smile, cat ears) become English booru tags (`black_hair, smile, cat_ears`) — and the direction is auto-detected from whether the input contains Japanese characters. Underscore-style tags (`long_hair`) and spaced tags (`long hair`) are treated the same internally, so you don't have to normalize first. Translation is done purely against a bundled dictionary of high-frequency tags (hair color and length, eyes, expressions, clothing, character count, composition, quality tags, and more) with no external translation API or dictionary server. Tags that aren't in the dictionary are never machine-guessed — you choose whether to keep them as-is or mark them with "(?)", so a wrong guess never silently ends up in your prompt. Results update in real time and show how many tags were translated and how many were not found. Your tags are the blueprint of your work, so this tool makes no network calls and does all translation locally in your browser.
How to use
- Paste a list of English tags copied from Danbooru, or Japanese elements you wrote, into the input box on the left — mixed commas and line breaks are fine.
- Pick the direction (auto-detect / English → Japanese / Japanese → English), how to handle words not in the dictionary (keep as-is or mark with (?)), and the separator.
- Hit "Copy" on the translated output. Use English → Japanese to understand a prompt, and Japanese → English to paste straight into your Stable Diffusion prompt.
FAQ
Are the tags sent to a translation server?
No. All translation is just a lookup in the bundled dictionary inside your browser, with no external translation API or dictionary server. The tags you enter are never uploaded, stored, or sent anywhere — they are processed only on your device.
Which tags are in the dictionary?
It focuses on tags that show up most often on booru sites and in prompts: hair color/length/style, eye color, expressions, clothing, character count (like 1girl), poses and composition, backgrounds, and quality tags (like masterpiece). It's a thick core of common tags rather than an exhaustive list, so tags outside it pass through unchanged.
What happens to tags that aren't in the dictionary?
They are never machine-guessed, so a wrong translation can't slip into your prompt. Choose "Keep as-is" to leave them untouched, or "Mark with (?)" to append (?) so you can see at a glance which tags were not translated.
Should I type underscores or spaces?
Either works. `long_hair` and `long hair` are looked up as the same thing, so you can paste English tags without normalizing the spacing first.
How is the direction decided?
The default is auto-detect: if the input contains Japanese characters (hiragana, katakana, or kanji) it translates Japanese → English, otherwise English → Japanese. If the detection isn't what you want, you can fix the direction manually.
Can it also tidy the tags (underscore ⇄ space, dedupe)?
This tool focuses on translating meaning. For formatting — normalizing separators, escaping parentheses, removing duplicates, or sorting — use the tag-format tool instead.
