Work out how much fuel a trip will cost before you set off. In "Fuel cost" mode, enter the distance (km), fuel economy (km/L) and price per liter to get the total fuel cost, the liters used and the cost per km; add the number of people to also see the per-person split. In "Fuel economy" mode, enter the distance driven and the liters filled to calculate real-world fuel economy (km/L) and L/100km, and add the amount paid to also see the cost per km and the actual price per liter. The price defaults to ¥175/L as a rough guide for regular petrol — change it to the price you actually paid. Everything runs in your browser; the numbers you enter are never stored or uploaded.

How to use

  1. In "Fuel cost", enter the distance, fuel economy and price per liter (set the price to what you paid).
  2. Read the total fuel cost, liters used and cost per km. Add people to also get the per-person split.
  3. In "Fuel economy", enter distance and liters filled for real km/L. Add the amount paid for the price per liter and cost per km.

FAQ

How is the fuel cost calculated?

Distance ÷ fuel economy gives the liters used, which is multiplied by the price per liter to get the total cost. The per-person figure simply divides the total by the number of people.

How is fuel economy (km/L) calculated?

In "Fuel economy" mode it divides the distance driven since the last fill-up by the liters you just filled (distance ÷ liters). This suits the full-tank method of measuring real-world economy.

What is the ¥175/L default price?

It is a rough guide for regular petrol. Actual prices vary by region, time and station, so replace it with the figure from your fuel receipt.

Are the numbers I enter stored?

All calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. Settings like fuel economy and price are saved only on your own device to make repeat use easier, and can be cleared with Reset.
