Age = reference year − birth year (the age reached during that year). If a birthday has not come yet this year, subtract 1.

Enter a reference year to automatically build an age reference chart that lists, for each birth year, the full age, the Western year, the Japanese era (wareki) and the Chinese zodiac sign. The reference year is free to change (2026, next year, etc.), and age is computed as reference year − birth year (the age reached during that year). The era covers Meiji, Taishō, Shōwa, Heisei and Reiwa, and a year in which the era changed (such as 2019) shows both eras. The zodiac is the 12-animal cycle and can be hidden with one checkbox. Sort by youngest or oldest first, and print the table cleanly on A4. Useful for reception lists, confirming ages at ceremonies, and checking Japanese-era years on forms. Everything runs in your browser; the year you enter is never uploaded, and display preferences stay on your device.
How to use
- Enter a reference year (defaults to the current year).
- The chart of age, Western year, Japanese era and zodiac appears automatically.
- Toggle the zodiac or the sort order, then use Print for an A4 copy.
FAQ
How is the age calculated?
As reference year − birth year, which is the age reached during that year. If a person's birthday has not yet occurred in the current year, subtract 1 from the displayed age.
Why do some years show two Japanese eras?
A year in which the era changed contains two eras (for example, 2019 is both Heisei 31 and Reiwa 1). The chart lists both for that year.
Can I print it without the zodiac?
Yes. Uncheck "Show zodiac" to hide the zodiac column and print a simple chart of era, Western year and age only.
Is the year I enter stored?
All calculation runs in your browser with no upload. Display preferences (reference year, order, zodiac on/off) are saved only on your device and never sent to a server.
