See "which days are public holidays in 2026?" or "is today a holiday?" with this Japanese public holiday list and checker that runs entirely in your browser. Pick a year to list that year's national holidays with date, weekday and holiday name, along with the total count. Sundays are colour-coded and today's row is highlighted when it falls on a holiday. The "next holiday" is always shown so you can spot the next long weekend. In the checker mode, pick a date to see whether it is a public holiday (and its name). Holidays are computed in your browser from Japanese holiday law, including substitute holidays (振替休日) and citizens' holidays (国民の休日); the vernal and autumnal equinox days use an astronomical approximation, reliable roughly 2000–2099. Company-specific closures such as year-end or summer breaks are not included. Everything runs in your browser; the year and dates you enter are never stored or uploaded.
How to use
- In "Holidays of a year", pick a year to list its public holidays with date, weekday and name (plus the count and the next holiday).
- Use the ‹ › buttons to move to the previous or next year.
- In "Is this date a holiday?", pick a date to see whether it is a public holiday and, if so, its name.
FAQ
Can I check whether today is a holiday?
Yes. In the checker mode, pick a date (defaulting to today) to see whether it is a public holiday and, if so, its name. The list mode also highlights today's row when it falls on a holiday.
Are substitute and citizens' holidays included?
Yes. Substitute holidays (when a holiday falls on a Sunday) and citizens' holidays (a weekday sandwiched between two holidays) are included automatically, following Japanese holiday law.
Which years are supported?
Under the current law it covers roughly 2000–2099. The vernal and autumnal equinox days use an astronomical approximation, so for far-future years the date may differ by one day from the official calendar. One-off imperial holidays and years before 1999 are out of scope.
Are the dates I enter stored?
No. All calculation runs in your browser; the year and dates you choose are never sent to any server or stored.
