A grid drawing tool that adds a grid (the classic grid method) over a reference image, right in your browser and at full resolution. The grid method splits a reference into squares so you can focus on one cell at a time — a reliable way to keep proportions accurate, especially for beginners. Load the image you want to copy (click, drag-and-drop or paste), set how many columns you want, and the grid is drawn instantly. Turn on "square cells" and the number of rows is computed from the image's aspect ratio so every cell is a true square (turn it off to set rows manually). You control the line color, thickness and opacity, so the grid stays visible over any photo. Add row and column labels (columns A·B·C…, rows 1·2·3…) to call out cells like "B-3" while you copy one square at a time, or draw diagonals to check proportion and tilt. When it looks right, press Save PNG to export the gridded image — print it as an underlay for traditional drawing, or load it as a reference in your drawing app. Your image is never sent to a server; everything is processed inside your browser (only settings like columns, line color and labels are stored on your device for next time and can be cleared with Reset).
How to use
- Load the reference image you want to copy (click, drag-and-drop or paste).
- Set the number of columns; turn on "square cells" for auto rows, then adjust line color, thickness and opacity.
- Optionally add row/column labels or diagonals, then Save PNG to use the gridded image as a print underlay or in your drawing app.
FAQ
What is the grid method of drawing?
It's a technique where you split a reference image into a grid of squares and copy it one cell at a time. By looking at small cells instead of the whole image at once, it's much easier to keep proportions and placement accurate — which is why it's popular for beginners. This tool does the setup step: drawing the grid over your image.
Can I make the cells square?
Yes. Turn on "square cells" and the number of rows is calculated from the image's aspect ratio, so each cell is a true square with no distortion. Turn it off to set the columns and rows independently.
Can I print the gridded image and draw from it?
Yes. The grid is baked into the image at its full resolution, so the PNG you save with Save PNG can be printed and used as an underlay for traditional (analog) drawing, or loaded as a reference in a drawing app.
Can I label the cells with letters and numbers?
Yes. Turn on labels and the columns are marked A·B·C… and the rows 1·2·3…, so you can target a cell like "B-3" while copying square by square. You can also draw diagonals to check tilt and proportion.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image you load is never sent to a server — everything is processed inside your browser, and the exported PNG is saved only to your device. Only settings like columns, line color and labels are stored locally for next time and can be cleared with Reset.
